Industrial Hygiene is the science and art devoted to the anticipation, recognition, evaluation, prevention, and control of those environmental factors or stresses arising in or from the workplace which may cause sickness, impaired health and well-being, or significant discomfort among workers or among citizens of the community. Our staff of certified industrial hygienists, can provide support in each of these fields.

Anticipating Hazards
We assist clients starting at the design phase of projects to anticipate and minimize health and safety hazards before they have the chance to cause problems. A municipal government was replacing the ice making unit at one of their rinks. We worked with them to purchase a system that did not use potentially harmful refrigerants such as ammonia. That decision reduced both initial investment and ongoing maintenance costs associated with the more commonly used ice making technology.

Recognizing Hazards
Our staff provides knowledge and expertise to clients to help them recognize hazards, especially those related to chemical and ergonomic exposures that may already exist, that unnecessarily increase liability while maximizing efficiency and quality. A cabinet maker had been using the same adhesive to assemble their cabinets for more than 20 years. The adhesive contained methylene chloride, which irritates the respiratory tract and can cause cancer. We helped them find a new less costly adhesive that did not contain methylene chloride or formaldehyde, thereby both reducing exposure to dangerous chemicals and their workers’ compensation costs.

Evaluation

Because we are an independent company not associated with any lab or manufacturer, we work with numerous labs and suppliers to provide our clients with cost effective means to evaluate hazards, while providing first class customer service and advice.
